Mr. Benjamin Fletcher Ackerman, Jr.


November 27, 1928 - August 27, 1998

Mr. Benjamin Fletcher "B. F." Ackerman, Jr., age 69, of 1693 Red Oak Road, Cottageville, entered into eternal rest in the afternoon of Thursday, August 27, 1998 at the Columbia Trident Medical Center. Mr. Ackerman was born November 27, 1928 in Colleton County and was the eldest son of the late Benjamin Fletcher Ackerman, Sr.and Grace Hacker Ackerman. All four of their sons served their country voluntarily in military service. B. F. was a Navy Veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans.

He was the owner and operator of the Red Oak Nursery and was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after thirty four years as a Scheduler Supervisor. He was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church, where he had served as deacon and held many other offices. He was the active chairman of the board of trustees for the Ackerman Cemetery at Red Oak. He was known to all as the local historian and was a member of Saint Bartholomew Genealogy Chapter.

Surviving are his wife of fifty years, Mrs. Blanche Redman Ackerman, one daughter, Theresa Ackerman of Atlanta, Georgia, three brothers,Francis Ackerman and his wife Emily of Pickens, Crawford Ackerman of Cottageville, and John Ackerman of Selma, Alabama, and a sister, Veronica Ackerman Preacher and her husband Howard of Cottageville.
